Our estrogen levels have been on the decline since we were around 30 years old. It's the reason you might be experiencing symptoms of burnout, sleep deprivation, brain fog, fatigue, and mood swings is that your hormones are trying to communicate that they can't perform as they once did. The key to addressing this is to help them function better. So, what you need to do is to "LIFT HEAVY SHIT" (Stacy Sims PhD). We're talking about weights heavier than what you've been lifting. You need to give your metabolism a jolt, and that means Sprint Interval Training (SIT).
Your body already knows how to swim, run, or cycle, but how about trying the supercharged versions that wake up your body, optimize hormones, and utilize glucose and fat stores?
Here's what a typical session might look like:
- Spend 10 minutes on a full-body warm-up.
- Allocate 20 minutes to HEAVY compound lifts: Deadlifts/Barbell squats.
- Dedicate 10 minutes to SIT: 20 seconds all out, 40 seconds rest (cycle/sprint/row/ski erg).
- Invest 5 minutes in JUMPING! (jump rope/lateral jumps/forward jumps/drop landings).
- Devote 5 minutes to deep core work (30 seconds for each exercise).
- Conclude with 5 minutes of stretching (focus on your tightest muscles, and don't forget those obliques!)
Keep pushing yourself, it's not easy, BUT the benefits are huge! Let your physiology adapt to the incredible you!
